PAPER WIDE BELT SANDING for Lacquers and Plastics
The best results when selecting wide belts is likely to have been gained from Trial and Error but
some information is worth having as a starting point.

1) When choosing grits do not jump more than two grits in sequence
2) Always used the coarsest grit necessary to achieve a scratch free finish and provide a good
key
3) Use an antistatic filled belt. The advantages are very noticeable with regard to clogging and
pick up on the belt surface and no static charged dust build up within the machine.
4) Lacquers must be through cured, dried and cooled.
5) Never attempt to remove excessive stock by using excessive pad pressure and throughfeed
speed. Lacquers and plastics heat can soften and melt at the interface of the surface and
the belt. Excessive Belt clogging is the likely result.
6) With plastic film use coarser grit with decreased pressure, this will achieve the cut without
rucking stretching the film.
